Trackdesk vs Refersion: comparison of affiliate program software

Trackdesk vs Refersion: Pricing, Commissions and Affiliate Management Compared

Compare Trackdesk and Refersion on subscription costs, sales-based fees, affiliate recruitment and payouts to find the right platform for your growing program.

An affiliate program can become more expensive to operate even when its commission rates stay the same. Software fees tied to affiliate-generated sales add another cost to each successful partnership, which makes the pricing model an important part of choosing a platform.

Trackdesk offers published subscription plans without a percentage charge on affiliate sales. Refersion provides a lower entry price and features built around ecommerce, although its Launch and Growth plans add sales-based fees.

For businesses expecting affiliate revenue to grow, Trackdesk offers a clearer basis for forecasting software costs. The comparison also depends on how you recruit partners and which sales events your program needs to reward.

How do Trackdesk and Refersion differ?

Trackdesk supports affiliate programs across ecommerce and SaaS, with conversion-based commission settings that accommodate different business models. Refersion concentrates on ecommerce brands, including businesses working with influencers and brand ambassadors.

Both platforms provide partner recruitment tools and recurring commissions. Refersion’s current paid plans also include unlimited affiliates, clicks and conversions, so those allowances alone do not establish a Trackdesk advantage.

Trackdesk is particularly attractive when a business wants to manage several types of affiliate activity without adding a platform percentage to each sale.

What does each platform cost?

Refersion’s paid plans combine a subscription with a percentage of affiliate-driven sales on Launch and Growth.

Refersion planMonthly billingMonthly equivalent, billed annuallyPlatform fee on affiliate sales
Launch$39$293%
Growth$199$1592%
ScaleCustom quoteCustom quoteQuoted flat subscription

Paid plans include unlimited affiliates, clicks and conversions. Growth adds API access and advanced commission options. A free marketplace listing provides visibility, but tracking and operating a program require a paid plan.

Trackdesk’s standard affiliate program plans cover three levels. Prices below are in USD, with the billing commitment shown separately.

Trackdesk planMonthly billingMonthly equivalent, annual billingSeats / active offersMain distinction
Business$399$2995 / 10Basic API and a custom migration guide
Enterprise$599$499Uncapped / uncappedFull API, white-label functionality and fully managed migration
Enterprise PLUSFrom $1,199From $1,199; final terms quotedUncapped / uncappedCustom development and private infrastructure, with fully managed migration

Business includes 100 tracked coupons and one custom redirect domain. Enterprise provides uncapped coupons and three redirect domains; Enterprise PLUS includes five redirect domains. API limits are five requests per second on Business, 20 on Enterprise and custom on Enterprise PLUS. Business API access excludes billing functions.

Affiliates, clicks and conversions are uncapped across these plans. Traffic above 20 million clicks per month may require a private server. The assisted trial lasts 14 days. Enterprise PLUS has a starting price and requires a sales proposal for the final scope and terms.

Trackdesk does not add a percentage of affiliate sales to these subscriptions. Refersion’s lower entry subscription can suit an early program; the sales-based charge makes the comparison change as affiliate revenue increases.

How do sales-based fees affect your budget?

The percentages listed in Refersion’s Shopify app pricing apply to affiliate-generated sales. They are separate from the commission you agree to pay affiliates.

The following examples use monthly billing and include only the software subscription and its sales-based fee.

Monthly affiliate-generated salesRefersion LaunchRefersion GrowthTrackdesk Business
$5,000$189$299$399
$20,000$639$599$399
$50,000$1,539$1,199$399

These figures exclude affiliate commissions and payment processing charges. Each plan also has different features; Refersion Scale requires a separate quote and is not represented here.

At $20,000 in monthly affiliate sales, Growth’s 2% charge adds $400 to its subscription. That makes Trackdesk Business $200 less expensive per month in this example, provided its feature allowances fit the program.

Trackdesk’s subscription pricing without a platform take fee make the difference increasingly relevant as sales rise. A successful partnership can contribute more revenue without automatically increasing the platform bill by a percentage of that revenue.

How does tracking work?

Refersion’s first-party tracking connects an affiliate click to a shopping session or cart identifier, then matches that identifier to the completed order. Its referral links remain on the store’s domain. Coupon and customer email attribution provide additional ways to credit partners.

That approach is designed around ecommerce purchases. It is useful when creators promote products through a mixture of links and discount codes.

Trackdesk supports direct linking, allowing visitors to reach landing pages without a tracking redirect. Its server-to-server tracking also allows a business’s systems to report conversion events directly.

For a business whose affiliate journey extends beyond checkout, server-reported events provide a useful foundation. The program can distinguish a lead from a completed sale and apply the appropriate reward to each event.

The practical advantage is flexibility in defining the outcome an affiliate earns commission for.

Can commissions reflect different customer and partner relationships?

Refersion offers meaningful ecommerce commission controls. Its offers and commissions features include product-level rates and subscription rewards.

Growth customers can also use different rates for new and returning customers. This lets a merchant pay more for acquiring a customer than for generating a repeat purchase. Refersion currently states that this feature cannot be combined with a tiered commission structure.

Trackdesk’s recurring commission settings organize rewards by conversion type. A conversion can trigger a single payout, a limited number of recurring payouts or ongoing rewards. Amounts can be fixed or percentage-based, with different settings for affiliate tiers or groups.

This suits a program that needs distinct rules for initial purchases and subsequent subscription payments. It also gives managers a consistent structure for offers with different commercial objectives.

Refersion’s customer-based rates are relevant to retail acquisition. Trackdesk is the stronger fit when the program’s reward logic needs to cover several conversion types across the business.

How do the platforms help you recruit partners?

Refersion provides more than a public listing. Its AI-powered affiliate discovery uses product categories and the intended audience to surface relevant partners. Shopify product categories can be mapped automatically, and the platform suggests outreach messages.

These tools suit a brand that wants its own team to select prospects and manage outreach.

The Trackdesk Marketplace is available to active paying customers after application and review. Trackdesk vets participants and manages offer listings, with matching and outreach to relevant affiliates. The advertiser defines the offer terms and validates the resulting conversions.

Business includes one marketplace offer. Enterprise includes three with featured positioning, while Enterprise PLUS offers capacity on demand with featured positioning. Under the advertiser workflow, traffic appears under a dedicated Trackdesk Marketplace affiliate, with individual publisher performance identified through a reporting parameter. Trackdesk handles marketplace affiliate payouts through a separate monthly USD settlement process; payment provider fees may apply.

That service gives Trackdesk an advantage when the team lacks time for sourcing partners individually. It supports recruitment across markets that include SaaS and DTC, making it relevant beyond product-focused influencer campaigns.

Both platforms can help businesses reach new partners. Trackdesk’s managed approach is more compelling when recruitment capacity is the main obstacle to expanding the program.

What are the requirements for automated payouts?

Refersion’s Unified Payments automates monthly affiliate payments and collects tax information. Merchants must have a US-registered business and a US bank account, and payments must be made in USD. Eligible affiliates can be located internationally.

Those restrictions apply to Unified Payments specifically. Refersion also offers other payment methods, so they should not be interpreted as a restriction on all international use of the platform.

Its published payment fees include a merchant funding charge of 1%, capped at $6 per funding event. Affiliate withdrawals cost $1 for US recipients or $1 plus 3% for international recipients. Merchants also pay $5 annually for each applicable 1099 filing, and a failed ACH funding request can incur a $25 fee.

Trackdesk’s Tipalti integration connects the business’s own Tipalti account. Affiliates provide their payment details, payments are sent for processing, and statuses update periodically in Trackdesk. Availability and processing costs depend on the payment provider.

Trackdesk also supports Stripe Connect payouts. After affiliates complete Stripe onboarding, the business can send transfers from its own Stripe balance against a Trackdesk settlement. This payout connection works independently of Stripe conversion tracking. Available countries depend on the business’s Stripe account, and provider charges remain separate.

For a business already using Tipalti, Trackdesk offers a direct way to connect affiliate payouts to that payment operation. An international team should compare its required countries and currencies against the provider’s coverage, rather than assume Refersion’s USD-only Unified Payments will fit.

Which platform gives managers more control over reporting?

Refersion provides reporting by product and campaign. Its reporting features also allow businesses to use GraphQL or REST APIs to build custom dashboards from their data. API access starts on Growth.

Trackdesk’s Report Builder provides configurable analysis within the platform. Managers can arrange up to three hierarchical groupings and filter by conversion type or status, then save the result as a reusable preset.

A manager could group performance by affiliate and offer, inspect approved sales separately from pending conversions, and return to the same view during the next review.

For teams that want to adjust recurring reports without building an external dashboard, Trackdesk provides a practical fit. The saved configuration keeps the review consistent while allowing the underlying results to change.

What support is available when moving an existing program?

Refersion’s migration documentation reserves affiliate importing for Growth and Scale. It recommends allowing at least two weeks for the transition and explains that affiliate imports do not include historical sales or payment data.

The guide also addresses referral link changes and temporarily overlapping platforms. These are important considerations for an established program whose affiliates already have published content.

Trackdesk’s migration service includes parallel tracking to evaluate the replacement setup before completing the switch. Business customers receive a migration guide, while Enterprise and Enterprise PLUS include fully managed migration.

For a move from Refersion, the migration scope should cover active partner terms and any recurring commission relationships. Validating those arrangements before the transition gives the team a concrete basis for approving the new setup.

Should you choose Trackdesk or Refersion?

Trackdesk is the stronger choice for businesses that want predictable software costs as affiliate sales grow. Its conversion-based reward settings also suit programs that extend beyond ecommerce orders, while managed marketplace matching can reduce the work involved in finding new partners.

Refersion offers a lower entry subscription and useful retail features, including product-based commissions and customer acquisition rewards. Launch and Growth become more expensive as affiliate sales increase, while Scale needs a separate commercial comparison.

For a growing program, Trackdesk combines a clear pricing model with the flexibility to develop different offers. Start with the 14-day Trackdesk trial and evaluate your commission rules alongside the reports your team uses to decide which partnerships deserve further investment.
